What a week

Well last week turned out quite interesting. Friday night, Amy and I were excited as we were going to go out for Valentines (the night after, because Amy was in school). Nate was supposed to be at his friend Joe's for his birthday and Edie was supposed to be at "Parent Night Out" at our extended day. Well Nate's friend cancelled, but we still decided to go out. We sat down at the decidedly "blue hair" early bird time of 5:30 pm at The Rat Pack. After a discussion about why I could not and would not order fois gras, our drinks arrived. At that same time Amy's phone rang, and we found out that Edie's school had lost power and we had to come get her immediately. So evening cancelled.
Next day Edie isn't her usual happy go lucky self...we take her temp and she has 102...so no swimming class. Now that evening I was leaving with Nate to head to Killington and a couple of days of skiiing at Pico. Amy was starting to come down with something but she sent me and Nate along, citing that..."Edie always gets sick when I go away with Nate."
I follow my buddy Larry up to Killington and the next day Nate and I have a terrific time skiing...this is the 2nd year that we have joined Larry up at his chalet. Its become a tradition.
About skiiing....lets just say I ski like an old man...Nate is amazing but I kind of ski the slow and steady....
That night we had a terrific dinner...thats' when I got the call from Amy...although Edie was feeling much better....Amy was feeling very bad, and would I come home tomorrow? Now the forecast for Monday was rain, so it didn't seem like skiing was in the cards.....we watched a Matrix marathon and crashed that night...
Next day it was pouring so we all slept in. I have to tell you, Larry makes the best breakfast foods...he made a terrific batch of French Toast....Nate and I took off that morning and proceeded to have a very foggy drive home.
It turns out that Amy had Bronchial Pneumonia. with the Flu..she is just starting to feel better. Meanwhile I had come down with an ear infection. By some miracle, neither kid had gotten sick!
Now Amy was supposed to drive Nate to a Super Regional Fencing tournament at the Cobra Fencing Club in Jersey City, NJ. But with her feeling bad, I had to take him. We left Thursday afternoon and got there in about four hours. We stayed at the lovely Howard Johnson's Express in North Bergen, NJ. What a disgusting pit. Nate of course fell asleep easily enough, but the screaming (which sounded like something from Psycho) was enough to have me call the "front-desk" a few times complaining. Breakfast was Twinkies and Instant Coffee.
Nate did really well at the tournament, so all in all it was a good trip from a Fencing point of view. The way home was really tough as by the time we got out of the tournament we were in the middle of a nasty nor'easter. At the Vince Lombardi Rest Stop, a trucker asked me where I was going. He said to avoid Connecticut as Route 84 was shut down and 95 had a 25 mile backup. His lovely suggestion was to take Route 87 all the way up north through the Catskills then hang a right on the Mass Pike. The theory was that the Pike was the best maintained road in the state. Well almost 8 hours later, I pulled in to home. After 3-4 white-out squalls and literally 1/2 a dozen nasty accidents (including a tractor trailer in the ditch and a rolled over tanker).
Well Amy is feeling much better now...next year we are spending February vacation in Florida!

Refereeing

I reffed my 1st game (actually 2 games) on Sunday. I had done this many times before in "scrimmages" but it was the 1st time I was paid to ref. I did one girls game and one boys game. I have to admit it was a ton of fun! The boys game was really fast and intense, but I really enjoyed the girls game. It was a last minute one point game win! I have to thank my brother Matty for giving me some pointers. Matty, I did have a screw-up and when I realized it, I said "my bad" and changed the call!
My son is getting closer and closer to high school. Its mind-boggling to think of him as an adult but he is closer then I can imagine! Luckily I have my daughter to keep me young.

Jimmy Kimmel

Ok today at my cousin's Bar Mitzvah my cousin's boyfriend asked me if anybody ever told me I looked like Jimmy Kimmel. I don't watch his show, but I'll let you be the judge:

I don't see it personally....

My sports boycott is over, I've seen some Celtics and read about the Sox. I cannot believe that the Sox signed Schilling and now he is out for 1/2 a year. Pretty dumb in my opinion.

I was excited about the Grammy's tomorrow, because I really wanted to see Amy Winehouse. But I guess she's not out of "rehab" yet, so that is not gonna happen.

So I voted for Obama. Doesn't mean I won't vote for Hillary in the general election, but I just feel Barak is like the Aughts version of JFK...think about it....

I'm reffing 2 basketball games tomorrow for the 1st time in my life. Wish me luck!

Here is a shot of me:

Not in mourning over Pats loss, taking a pause on Sports

2 Sox championships in 3 years? 3 Pats championships in 7? 5 times in AFC championship and 4 in Super bowl. I REMEMBER THE BAD DAYS. Plus the Celtics are awesome. Sports is no fun when you ALWAYS win.
The ball is shaped funny in football so it tends to bounce unpredictably. I predict next year Pats will fall big time. The defense will be overhauled (2-3 retirements, plus they will lose Samuel).

Plus I'm pissed about all this cheating stuff...if he really did it, Belichick ought to be fired.

I used to actually root for the Giants when I was a kid and the Pats sucked.I would have been devastated if they lost to Indy, Jets, Pittsburgh or SD...

Shoot I love Strahan...and what about that ridiculous play by that rookie WR when he caught it with his helmet!

I'm taking a break on sports for a few days...

Instead the last 2 days I was reading Babette's Feast (the short story) after our amazing Gourmet Club dinner recreating the movie/story. Amy really missed her calling....the Quail was unbelievable....well the whole meal was fantastic. Meanwhile I put on 3 pounds last week so I'm strict-strict-strict on the eating/drinking front until I can get back under 200 again.
